This book is actually about Hannah Baker, who killed herself
by taking pills and she recorded seven cassettes with thirteen reasons why she
killed herself. In the tapes, she recorded her story with thirteen people that made
her kill herself. Clay Jensen received a box of cassettes and he was surprise
to hear Hannah’s voice in it. However, Clay Jensen is not one of them. He is
actually a guy that appeared in Hannah’s life and he did nothing wrong towards
her but in order to finish her story, Hannah must tell her story about herself and
Clay. Hannah was Clay’s classmate and
his first love who committed suicide two weeks earlier. All through the night,
Clay keeps listening to the tapes, and what he discovers changes his life…
forever.
The interesting event that happened in this book is at Clay Jensen’s
house. At first, Clay received the package full with cassettes and he listened
to them at his garage. All through the night Clay listened to it and he also
went to the places that Hannah marked at the map that she gave together with
the cassettes. The first reason was Justin Foley and followed by others. There
were many shocking stories that Clay didn’t know. He even cried listening to
them as it breaks his heart; Hannah was her crush and both of them used to work
together at the cinema. Clay felt sorry for her because he really wished that
he could rewind the past and save her. In the tapes, Clay also discovers that
Hannah also develops a feeling towards him but she was too afraid to tell him
and share her problems with him. With many untrue gossips about her, Clay was
also scared to take his first step to make Hannah his girlfriend.
Now, she’s dead and it’s
too late to save her already. After finished listening to all the cassettes,
the next day, Clay sent it to the next person which is Jenny Kurtz. Clay had learnt
that everything that happened to Hannah is a huge lesson to everyone. His job
was done after sending those tapes to the next person and he continued to live
his life even though it is sad to all the things that happened to Hannah Baker.
Now, he had a new hope, which is Skye.
