The Hobbit

       The novel that I have read is The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien. The Hobbit is a tale about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo is approached by the wizard Gandalf and sets on an adventure to help the Dwarves reclaim their homeland and it's vast treasure from the dragon Smaug.

          The part I find most interesting in this book is the time Bilbo first encounters the creature Gollum. Before this had happened, Bilbo and company had been captured by Goblins and Bilbo managed to escape into the caves. There, Bilbo encounters the creature Gollum who drops a golden ring while killing a stray goblin to eat. Bilbo picks up the ring and puts it in his pocket.

           Bilbo is later confronted by Gollum who intends to kill him and eat him. They then play a game of riddles wagering that Bilbo will be shown the way out of the caves if he wins or eaten by Gollum if he loses. After a few rounds, Bilbo comes to his final chance. He asks Gollum what is in his pocket. Noticing his ring is lost, Gollum infuriates and suspects Bilbo of stealing it and attacks him. Bilbo then puts on the ring by accident and he finds that it grants him invisibility. Bilbo then has a chance to kill Gollum, but spares him of his life and escapes the cave while Gollum curses the hobbit.
