The Perks of Being A Wallflower

The novel that I read entitled "The Perks of Being A Wallflower" written by Stephen Chbosky. I found this novel interesting because many people suggested it. So, it goes something like this... The main character in this novel is Charlie. He is also the one who narrates the story. He starts to write to someone who he feels that he could trust with all his secrets and distress. Charlie starts as a freshman in an high school. The first few pages tell us that his friend, Michael died because he comitted suicide and left Charlie alone to face high school. Michael was the only friend that Charlie had because they both seems to have some chemistry between each other.

Charlie usually spends a lot of time observing, well, mostly everything especially the people around him. He is always trying to think through some of life's great mysteries. As the result, he once refers to one of his counceling group members as "Carl who is nice to everyone". While observing, people tend to judge the others. So does Charlie. Then, he gets to know Patrick and Sam. Both of them are seniors in the high school. They are the one that introduced Charlie to new things such as drugs, musics and sort of things that can also be known as the meaning of real life. As the result, he turns from an innocent boy to a matured boy.

Charlie is said to be one of the most gifted people by his teacher, Bill. He is actually a hardworking student and always full of imaginations. That is why his teacher has been assigning him extra work to complete. As an example, he has been asked to make some reviews about a few novels such as "To Kill A Mockingbird" and "Peter Pan". Teacher Bill finds that Charlie's book reviews are quiet enjoyable to read. So, he gives him even more and more books after Charlie had done with the book he gave before.

Charlie also has a bad temper. Although his heart is in the place, that does not stop Charlie from beating people. In the book, we know that Charlie beats Sean, the one who bullied him days after he got into his freshman year. Heoften bottled up his feelings until they explode. Then, when the anger explode, it will make everything worst than u can ever imagine. People in the school used to downgrade him just because he stays quite and always lonely. Charlie discovers that his favourite person, Aunt Helen, deceased because she molested him when he was younger. It gives a big impact to Charlie's life when her aunt did that cruel thing.

So, to sum it up, Charlie is shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward. He is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it. The Perks of Being A Wallflower will remind you back (who is in adulthood now) those days where u were in the growing up cycle.
